Burden of Desires

the weight

It all began the day He watched Adam and Even choose knowledge over intimacy with Him. That’s the day He picked up the burden, the burden of His desire to get us back in close fellowship with Him. It was a burden because He had to bear the weight of carrying the desire until just the right time to receive it. The separation of God and man was more painful for Him than it ever was for us. For years, He had to accept sacrifices from animals whose blood was never pure enough to last, and He had to go through priests that were just as fallen as us. When your desire is for a face to face relationship with someone, anything less doesn’t satisfy; it just makes the desires stronger and weightier. The only answer was to give His own Son as a sacrifice. His desire to be close to us was greater than the desire to preserve His Son.

So, down comes Jesus covered in the same flesh that plagues us but without sin. He was spotless and blameless. He did nothing wrong, but He paid the price of sin for you and I. The burden of our sins and the burden of His Father’s desire was transfer to His back to carry, and He carried it all the way to Calvary. He experienced separation from the Father so we would no longer have to. Finally, the partition of sin that stood between us and God was torn down by the blood of Jesus…It was a heavy weight to carry for God and Jesus, but what helped them endure was the joy before them, the joy of being able to spend time with you uninhibited by sin.

Do you have God given desires? Desires that you’ve been carrying so long that they’ve become weighty burdens? If yes, I want to encourage you to keep pressing forward. Don’t give up on your desires. I can’t imagine how difficult it was for God to carry the weight of His desire to be close to us. I’ll never know the great cost, but I’m grateful He didn’t give up on His desires; He didn’t give up on me. Because of His patient endurance, I’m able to experience the closeness of His presence. What’s on the other side of your patient endurance? If God has given you desires in your heart don’t let them go. Just like Jesus came along to take the weight of our sins, He will also bear the weight of your desires. So, shift the weight to His shoulders and keep going. There is great joy before you. **G.I.G.**
